Ermita Virgen de los Reyes

ERMITA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LOS REYES

Ermita Virgen de los Reyes is situated in the western part of El Hierro, known as La Dehesa.

Ermita Virgen de los ReyesThis small chapel is the very important place and, at the same time, the main destination of the local Herreños pilgrimages. Here is kept the statue of the Virgen de los Reyes - the patron saint of the island. In her honour every four years on the island takes place the famous Bajada Virgen de los Reyes - the tradition that began in 1741. During pilgrimage the figure of Virgen is moved from the sanctuary in La Dehesa to the church of Iglesia de la Concepción in Valverde. The procession route leads through the specially marked trail called Camino de Virgen.

In the direct vicinity of the chapel is located Cueva del Caracol - the first place of this saint figure storage.
