La Frontera is the second largest, and at the same time one of the youngest towns on El Hierro. It is situated in its central-northern part and it belongs to the municipio of the same name.


The town is small and relatively less-developed. The livelihood of its inhabitants is cultivation of vines - from here comes the well-known on the whole archipelago wines "Viña Frontera". All offices and institutions are located in the neighbouring Tigaday and others, the most important villages of this region: Las Lapas, Los Mocanes, Belgare and Merese.



The only point distinguishing in La Frontera is the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria from XIXth century. The attention draws particularly the bell tower, which is separated from the main building and is placed a little above, on the covered with the red volcanic ash Montaña de Joapira hill.

La Frontera is situated in the same center of the island, the main road passes through it, so it's rather impossible to miss it. From Valverde the easiest is to drive through the Mocanal toward the northern coast and then follow the signposts.
