Fuente Mencáfete is situated in the western, mountainous part of El Hierro, in municipio of La Frontera.

This source is located on the area of the reserve Reserva Natural Integral de Mencáfete, in the middle of the beautiful, virgin forests Laurisilva, dominated by Fayas and callunas (Brezos). This is the only natural source on the island, in which water flows incessantly throughout the year.

Fuente de Mencáfete had once a great importance for the inhabitants of Sabinosa, who supplied here in the drinking water.

To Fuente Mencáfete leads the only one way, so-called Pista al Derrabado. To get to it you should drive from Valverde in the direction to Frontera through San Andrés (through the mountains) and few kilometres behind the Mirador la Llanía on the one of bends turn left. The road is well marked.
