Pozo de la Salud is situated close to the Sabinosa, on the western end of the El Golfo bay, in municipio of La Frontera.


This is one of the most visited places on the island and, at the same time, the most known health resort, the only one of this type on the whole Canary Islands. In Pozo de la Salud are the famous springs of sulfur water of a medicinal properties.




Their specific character was discovered yet in 1830 by the doctor Leandro Casañas Frías. A little later, in 1949, these waters had been approved by the government of Spain and allowed for the public use. According to published declaration they were classified as sodium chloride waters with a high content of sulfur and bicarbonates and such compounds as: iron, lithium, phosphorus, potassium, silicon and ammonia. Accoring to medical and chemical analysis they are perfect to cure the circulation and digestion problems. They are advised for dermatological, rheumatic and antistress treatments as well. They can be applied both internally (to drink) and externally (in a form of treatment baths and inhalations).



In 1996 in the direct neighbourhood of Pozo de la Salud was opened a modern spa resort (Hotel-Balneario Pozo de la Salud), which offers every types of treatments based on the medicinal properties of the sulfur waters.

To get to the Pozo de la Salud you need to take the road along the northern coast in the direction to the west, and in Sabinosa take the way toward the sea.
