Roques de Salmor are located in the eastern part of the El Golfo bay (north-eastern part of El Hierro) in the municipio of La Frontera.


These are the two picturesque, protruding from the sea rocky formations: the 100-metres high el Roque Grande and the lower one - el Roque Chico. In the past in this place were discovered many endangered species of birds and prehistoric, famous lizards of El Hierro - Lagarto Gigante de el Hierro, which were considered as extincted.



Nowadays the rocks of Roques de Salmor are one of the most important places of the bird's breeding on the island, and the area which they occupy (about 3,5 ha) is under the special protection. In this zone has been created the Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural Integral de Roques de Salmor), which was cataloged as a zone of the special protection of birds (Zona de Especial Protección para las Aves).

Unfortunately it's not possible to get directly to the Roques de Salmor. But you can admire them from many places on the island, in particular from Las Puntas and Mirador de la Peña.
